Facts about the North Coast
- The North Coast region includes 11,000 miles (18,000 km) of coastline and 94,000 square miles (244,000 sq. km) of inland sea with access to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence Seaway and to the Gulf of Mexico via the inland waterway system.
- Over 150 million tons of cargo move by ship along the North Coast annually with 25% coming from and going to overseas ports in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
- The North Coast region is home to over four million registered recreational boats and yachts, nearly a third of the U.S. total.
